Learning for enhanced life efficiency for people with special needs is a research and development project conducted in 1995 and 1996.

The target group were adults with milder form of mental handicap who had finished their schooling in the special classes of the elementary schools with the adapted programme. In the time the project was conducted they were unemployed or included in the training programmes for work in the workshops for handicapped or in special workrooms for the handicapped.

In the project the social and economic status together with the psychosocial characteristics of the target group were researched. According to these findings conclusions regarding their educational needs were reached.

Existing programme had been adapted to the new target group and teachers were trained. The programme had been experimentally delivered for seven groups, i.e. 55 participants. The evaluation methodology had been designed and delivery and the effects evaluated taking into account all the partners in the project. Finally the recommendations and proposals were formed with the view of further improvement of their condition in the labour market and with the view of their possibilities of choice in employment and education. The report on the effects and delivery in the Slovenian language is in the library of the SIAE.
