The supply and demand in the field of adult education are increasing therefore it is becoming more and more important to assure high-quality services, especially as far as the network of education providers is concerned. In order to monitor and assess quality in an objective way, an all-embracing concept has to be developed. The specificity of adult education calls for a specific concept of quality, as well. The following questions need to be addressed: how to increase the accessibility of adult learning, how to assure the accreditation of prior learning, how to suppress inadequate supply, and how to adapt education to the needs of individuals?

The basic aim of the project is to explore various practices and procedures for assuring and developing quality, and how to establish links among them. Thereby, we will set up a system of indicators for monitoring the quality of work in adult education which will be used in the process of developing an integral model of quality assurance in adult education.

The project work is based on co-operation with providers of adult education. In this way we can find out which procedures and mechanisms for quality assurance are already being used, whether taking care of quality is part of their work plans, and what is their opinion on the role of quality, in general.

The development of the quality assurance concept affects all levels of adult education: higher vocational education, short-term and vocational secondary education, and basic education for adults. While setting up quality assurance concepts for these levels, we are co-operating with competent institutions. The results of our work are:
  • manuals for quality assurance in adult education,
  • quality monitoring mechanisms (questionnaires, reminders for interviews…),
  • quality models for various adult education providers.
